We believe that cinema can be a powerful language even in the hands of the very youngest. Vietato ai Maggiori di 6 Anni is a documentary made by and with approximately 230 children aged 3 to 5 from nine kindergartens in Modena, managed by Fondazione CresciaMo. Written and directed by Federika Ponnetti, and produced by Sofos APS with executive production by Zoom Srl, the project was developed within the national framework Piano Nazionale Cinema e Immagini per la Scuola, supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education, with the patronage of the Municipality of Modena.
The children became the true authors of their own gaze on the world, cameras in hand, they documented their experiences both in the classroom and across their city: from the Cimitero di San Cataldo designed by Aldo Rossi, to the Museo Enzo Ferrari, the Torre Ghirlandina, the Acetaia Comunale, and the archive of architect Cesare Leonardi. The 43-minute documentary closes with footage from the families' personal archives, composing a collective portrait that celebrates the beauty of difference and the uniqueness of every child.
The project's premiere at Teatro La Tenda in Modena drew a full house of over 160 people, children, families, teachers and grandparent, and was later presented as a best practice at the Territorial Pedagogical Coordination Assembly of the Province of Modena.
