Unici e basta is an educational outreach project inspired by the documentary Ugualmente Diversi, created by Futuro Onlus in collaboration with the production company Zoom srl, with
the support of Fondazione di Modena and the Municipality of Modena.
At its heart, Unici e basta invites students to explore what it means to be unique in a world that too often divides people into categories like “normal” and “different”. Through the lens of
cinema and direct engagement with the creative process, the project aims to reshape conversations around diversity and inclusion in schools.
The initiative unfolds in three formats:
Through a collective viewing of Ugualmente Diversi at the cinema, followed by a live talk with director Federika Ponnetti and (when possible) some of the documentary's protagonists, students are offered a powerful moment of reflection. The experience is designed for school assemblies and civic education programs, highlighting real stories of young autistic adults working at a revolutionary restaurant and their unexpected encounter with a high school class. The screening is introduced by the director, who shares her vision and personal motivations behind the film, creating space for open dialogue and critical thinking.
For classrooms seeking a more hands-on experience, Unici e basta also includes a mobile filmmaking workshop. Students are guided through the process of telling their own stories using smartphones from framing to editing. The structure echoes the documentary itself,
which features selfie-style footage made by students. Over four sessions, participants explore the power of editing, produce short video diaries, and collectively assemble a classshort film. It’s a practical and emotional journey that empowers students to share their own unique perspectives.
Tailored for younger audiences, Unici e basta is also available as an educational cinema outing for middle school classes. The morning includes a screening of Ugualmente Diversi and a Q&A session with the director. While the documentary’s protagonists are high school students, its themes resonate across age groups making it a powerful tool to introduce students to civic engagement, empathy, and inclusive values. Across all formats, Unici e basta blends storytelling, cinema, and authentic human connection to foster critical dialogue about diversity and belonging. Whether in a theatre seat or behind a smartphone screen, students are invited to reflect on this message: We are all unique, and that is more than enough.
